Six North Carolina starters will not play in their season opener on Saturday against No. 16 LSU in Atlanta for the Chick-fil-A kickoff, the university announced on Friday. The six starters — defensive tackle Marvin Austin, cornerback Charles Brown, cornerback Kendric Burney, wide receiver Greg Modest (right), defensive end Michael McAdoo and defensive end Robert Quinnhave been declared ineligible for violating school and/or NCAA policy.

The NCAA first visited the campus in July focused on whether Austin and Modest expected improper benefits starting agents. That probe has since expanded into potential academic misconduct involving a tutor. "We are subdue effective with the NCAA staff to resolve these eligibility issues," athletic boss Dick Baddour unwritten in a statement. "The NCAA is focusing on each of their situations on a case-by-case basis. Collectively we are effective to set up their status in as thorough and rational a administer as is possible."
